Striking violet-blue flower spikes add drama to the landscape. The flower spikes shoot up above the green, mounded foliage. The nectar is a favorite drink of butterflies. Bottom foliage will not die out like many other varieties. Deadheading of spent blooms is necessary to encourage additional blooming. The plant is deer resistant and salt tolerant.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Remove faded flower spikes for enhanced blooming. Easily divided in fall or early spring. Prevent powdery mildew by planting in a site with adequate ground moisture and avoiding overhead sprinkling.

Nice, but they were kind of rootbound. Still, I loosen their roots, put them in the ground, fed them, and watered them in. I’m hopeful that they will settle in nicely and I’ll have some beautiful flowers next year.

Wonderful shade of powder blue. This was a gift to a friend so can't say this early how it will grow. I will say that on the initial plant I received the blooms weren't very tall or full and therefore not as showy as I had hoped, BUT it was a new plant, so that certainly may not end up being a problem as it grows.
