This new strain of the native grass is shorter than the species, but still boasts the lovable hair-like foliage and wispy movement. It makes an excellent showing in mass plantings. The short green foliage is topped by airy and aromatic tan flower panicles. The fragrance is green, fresh, & pleasant, and similar to coriander. In late fall, the foliage takes on a reddish tone. Provides nesting material for our native bees, and birds will love the seeds. A staff favorite! Native to eastern and midwestern U.S.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Plant in soil with average to high fertility. Can tolerate clay soil, but does best in well-drained, dryer soil; tolerates shallow, rocky soils well. Extremely heat and drought tolerant once established. Slow to mature, but worth the wait, and has little to no need for division.
