Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in rich soil with high organic content in partial sun or shade. Tolerates more sun with consistently moist soil. Try to plant it in the first half of the growing season for the most success. Avoid transplanting once established. A long-lived, hardy plant. Comes up late in the spring, so you may want to use a marker to avoid inadvertently digging it up or planting over it. Protect from rabbits.

Is this a winner?

This is the third time I've tried and maybe Little Redhead with be the charm? So far this plant has not been winter hardy and I have my doubts if it truly is in zone 5. Certainly hope so because it's stunning in bloom. Planted three of them and we just had two frosts and a freeze...they're toasted but let's see if they come back in 2021. All three flowered this summer and one continued until the frost. A nursery owner just 30 miles from here (but warmer) says they've had trouble overwintering this plant in pots, but they have survived in the ground in their gardens. Here's hoping. 3 stars for now, 4-5 if it over winters.

Extremely Hardy

I received 4 “Little Redheads” and was in really good condition upon arrival. Try are small young plants so they are yet are to bloom. I will say heat, drought and Hurricane Laura has not effected the plants in Zone 9. I can’t wait until I see them bloom, hopefully next year especially since I planted them late in the season. Romence Gardens Staff are some of the nicest people I have ever done business with.
