Panicum virgatum 'Hot Rod' is an upright and sturdy ornamental grass that makes an impact in the garden. The blades emerge bluish-green and then quickly darken to red until the entire plant is deep maroon. It turns red earlier than other Panicum varieties. Switch grass is a very important component of the tallgrass prairie that used to cover much of the eastern United States, and this variety is a wonderful choice for extended landscape interest in your own yard. U.S. native.
