Italian oregano is one of the quintessential herbs for sauce and soup making. Having larger leaves than Greek oregano, it dries down easily but leaves retain a large surface area. Italian oregano also stays sweet and hearty through prolonged cooking periods.
It is used widely in the culinary world in tomato dishes, soups, pizzas, with vegetables, and on meats to name just a few. Medicinally used as a tea in immune-boosting blends. Cut sprigs from the plant when it reaches about 6" tall. For best flavor, cut before the plant flowers.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Easy to grow in average well-draining soil with dry or medium moisture levels. You can shear back the entire plant regularly before flowers form to keep a steady growth of new leaves and to keep the plant tidy. Will spread readily underground. Use fresh or dried.
