Chrysanthemum 'Cracklin Golden Yellow', a hardy garden mum, brightens your garden with its vibrant golden blooms in mid to late fall.  A fiery yellow with red highlights fades to golden yellow as it ages. This mounding plant thrives in full sun and reaches 14–24 inches tall, spreading 12–30 inches. Ideal for borders and containers, it’s hardy in zones 6–11 and naturally blooms without forcing, ensuring strong, healthy plants that reliably flower into autumn.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Plant in full sun in well-draining soil. Water well, keeping in mind that rain or overhead sprinklers may not get much water down past the thick foliage into the soil, especially in a container. For the best chance of perennializing garden mums, be sure to plant as early as possible, especially in colder zones. They are slow to root, so they need plenty of time to establish themselves before the ground freezes or they can tend to heave out of the soil over the winter.

Are Mums Perennials or Annuals?

Chrysanthemums, commonly known as garden mums, can be perennial in the zones listed above.

However, we find that most mums do not perennialize and therefore, we consider them to be more of a cold tolerant annual.
