Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil. Very good in heavy, clay soils. Prefers not to dry out, but is somewhat drought tolerant once established. Avoid overcrowding, as these like good air circulation.

Deadhead throughout the season to encourage rebloom. Leave the final spent flower stalks on the plant in autumn, as the seeds will feed the birds; cut back in late winter. Divide in spring, if desired.

Water Requirements: Water soil fully, then let moderately dry out before next watering.

'American Gold Rush' Exceeded Expectations!

When I ordered three Rudbeckia 'American Gold Rush' at a reduced price near the end of the summer season, I was apprehensive about the condition they'd be in on arrival. I was very pleasantly surprised. The plants were healthy but very tall, so I removed about a third of their height, planted them where they received lots of hot Texas sun, and made sure they stayed well-watered. In a very short time, new growth appeared at the base of all three plants. They're thriving now, and I have no doubt they'll do very well in their new locations.
