Homeowner Growing Tips

These plants develop better flavor when not fertilized. Many sources suggest planting fennel away from other garden plants and do be aware that they are self-seeding, so you'll want to remove any flowers that form to prevent lots of new seedlings the next season. If using a container to grow fennel it will need to be quite deep, as it has a long taproot.

Bronze Fennel

We've had a colder than average spring in Central VA. and so far I have transplanted the fennel twice...I am growing in containers. The root system has been excellent from the get-go and the plants are doing well and we are in mid/late-May.
