Outstanding purple flowers are fabulous against the lance-shaped green leaves. They have an excellent extended bloom time. Flowers are fluffy and similar to cornflowers. The leaves are in rosettes along the stem and will remain evergreen throughout the winter in warmer climates. They are deer and rabbit resistant, and stand up well to heat and drought, once established. Adds a burst of color to the landscape. Named for Jonathan Stokes, an English physician and botanist. Native to the Southeast U.S.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in full sun, in fertile, acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Amend with compost before planting. Avoid heavy soils and excessive winter moisture. Deadhead to promote continued flower production. Mulch for the winter in Zone 5. Divide in spring, if desired.
