This native perennial produces striking indigo-blue flower spikes that bloom in late spring. Blue false indigo establishes deep roots, making it drought-tolerant once established and perfect for low-maintenance gardens. Attractive seed pods follow the flowers, extending seasonal interest into fall. A hardy, long-lived choice that requires minimal care and thrives in full sun to partial shade.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Easy to grow in average to poor soil that is well-drained. Best in full sun, but it will tolerate light shade. If grown in too much shade it will need to be staked. Moderately drought tolerant once established, which may take a couple seasons. Cut back in spring, or whenever it gets flattened by autumn or winter weather. A long-lived plant; avoid disturbing the clump once established.
