Dill is an easy herb to grow that has a nice aroma and many uses. Fresh dill is great in herb butter, soups, salads, and fish dishes. Once the plant goes to seed stop cutting for fresh use. Allow the seed heads to form and dry completely. Harvesting the seeds can be done easily by hand. Use seeds for pickling, on roasts, stews, vegetables, or grind up to use as a substitute for salt. You can also allow the bulb of the stem to develop at the base and harvest late in the season for roasting. 'Fernleaf' is a classic variety with finely cut foliage that is slow to bolt, or go to seed.

Uses: Culinary, Aromatic, Ornamental, Cut Flower
Nature Attraction: Favorite food sources of swallowtail butterflies
Critter Resistance: Deer

Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in rich, light, well-drained soil. Remove flower heads before they go to seed in order to prevent unwanted self-seeding.
