Heuchera 'Melting Fire' is among the brightest of reds you could add to your garden! This Coral Bells needs to be seen to be believed. Its foliage burns the brightest red in spring and fall but persists throughout the summer as well, and, in mild-climates, will shine in winter too with a darker red. Due to parentage that includes Heuchera villosa, the leaves are a bit more leathery and substantial than that of most other Heuchera cultivars, which makes them less susceptible to scorching in the summer heat. Bell-shaped pink blooms rise above the foliage on maroon stems in early summer and continue intermittently throughout the summer. Adaptable to sun or part-shade, this perennial is well suited as an accent, groundcover, or container focal point. U.S. native.

Uses: Beds, Borders, Containers, Cut Flower, Mass Planting, Edging
Nature Attraction: Butterflies, Hummingbirds
Critter Resistance: Deer

Homeowner Growing Tips

Coral Bells prefer moist, well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil. Amend with compost before planting. They will take sun or partial shade, though afternoon shade is required in hot regions to prevent leaf scorch. In cold climates, mulch well, after the ground freezes. If the plants heave due to frost, carefully press back into place in spring. Heucheras generally need to be divided and replanted every 3 years, burying the woody rootstock and keeping the crowns above the soil surface.
