2026 Caladium Of The Year

Caladiums are generally divided into two different types - Fancy and Strap or Lance leaf types. Fancy forms have heart-shaped leaves, while Strap forms have narrow foliage. A new salmon pink caladium, Chinook, scored high in trials across the US for its unique color and good plant habit. Chinook makes a nice hanging basket and is a great border plant in shaded landscape beds. Chinook also adds a great look when used in combination with other plants in patio planters. It does best in shade to part shade.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Caladiums are generally adaptable as houseplants where they prefer bright light or a sunny window.

Outdoors: Caladiums prefer heat and humidity and will not tolerate cold soggy soils well. Northern gardeners will have better results growing them in containers. For best growth keep the temperatures above 65 F.
