Beautiful vine that has fragrant white flowers that grow in masses of long clusters. Blooms appear in late summer to early fall, which is later than other vines. Foliage is ovate and green with new growth emerging red before it matures to green. Has exciting yellow fall color. It is deer resistant and drought tolerant once established in the landscape. Also known as Fallopia aubertii, and Bilderdykia aubertii.

Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in full sun or partial shade in moist, well-drained soil; prefers sandy loams, but adaptable to a wide range of soils. Provide a strong structure to climb on, such as a sturdy fence, pergola, or arbor, as a vigorous specimen may collapse a flimsy fence or trellis. May be allowed to scramble across the ground to cover banks or rock piles. Spreads vigorously by rhizomes, though less so in poor soils; avoid planting where it may escape into nearby natural habitats. May be cut back to 1-3 feet high in early spring, to renovate, if necessary. Otherwise, trim throughout the season as needed to keep in bounds. Avoid trimming later in summer as flower buds form.

So please with this beautiful vine. Planted it in May to grow over an arbor. Beautiful white lacy flowers all summer and into fall. Charming!
