Schizachyrium scoparium 'Standing Ovation' has wider leaves than other varieties. Throughout the summer the leaves become a brighter steel color with purple hues that make it look almost iridescent. Purple panicles appear in the fall with fluffy tan seeds and the foliage becomes a mix of purple, blue, red, pink, burgundy, and orange pigments. This plant produces lots of interest year-round!

This U.S. native was one of the dominant grasses of the tallgrass prairie which once covered much of central North America. Songbirds love the seeds, some butterflies use this as a food plant, and many native bees use bits of it for nesting material. Put a little piece of prairie in your own yard or meadow!
