This is a great choice for low borders, containers, or the front of beds with its compact habit, easy maintenance, and gorgeous flowers. The star-shaped flowers are quite large, a beautiful blue color, and sit atop the well-branched plant. Its low, dense form won't need staking like some taller varieties. A captivating flower for children, new gardeners, or anyone who likes something a little different. They make good cut flowers, too!

Homeowner Growing Tips

Grow in sun or partial shade. Balloon flowers prefer fertile, moist, well-drained, loamy soil. Amend with compost before planting. Established plants resent transplanting. Tall stems may require staking; cut back stems by 1/2 in May, to form a more compact plant that resists flopping. Deadhead after flowering. New stems emerge late in spring, so leave old stems in place through winter until new growth appears.
