Bergenia cordifolia 'Red Beauty' has thick, evergreen, foliage that extends the seasonal interest. The cabbage-like foliage and deep purple-red flowers are a good ground cover for shady areas. nice

I put it in a pot with a young japanese maple in morning sun. It seemed very happy. I've decided to leave it in the pot for the winter. We are in zone 5, so we'll see. it is protected from the winter winds.
