Homeowner Growing Tips: Grow in full sun to light shade. Bearded Irises prefer well-drained, fertile, slightly alkaline to slightly acidic soils. Plant shallow, with top of rhizome exposed above the soil line. A light mulch may be used if applied in a thin layer around the plants but not covering the rhizomes. Fertilize with granular bulb food in early spring and after flowering; scratch into the top inch or two of the soil. Divide plants every three years, in August.
