Plant shallow, with top of rhizome exposed above the soil line. A light mulch may be used, if applied in a thin layer around the plants, but not covering the rhizomes. Fertilize with granular bulb food in early spring and after flowering; scratch into the top inch or two of the soil. Divide plants every three years, in August.
