  • Huge, dinner plate-sized flowers
  • Dark, purple-black foliage
  • Great in wet areas
  • Begins shipping in June

This is a standout performer in the garden! 'Holy Grail' adds a wonderful richness to the garden with its almost black, oval shaped foliage. The incredibly large flowers are 8" - 9" across and deep red in color. These blossoms give way to bright green calyxes that contrast the dark folaige nicely. U.S. native hybrid.

Uses: Bogs, Borders, Cottage Gardens, Landscapes, Naturalizing, Rain Gardens, Specimen
Nature Attraction: Bees, Butterflies
Critter Resistant: Deer
Notable Features: Large Flowers, Rapid Growth, Heat Tolerant, Native
Growth Habit: Upright, Bushy

Homeowner Growing Tips: Plant in moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Keeping the plants well-watered will result in larger flowers and lush foliage. Deadhead to improve the appearance of the plant. Mulch for protection in winter. Cut back remaining stems to 3" - 4" in spring before new growth emerges. Hibiscus emerges late in spring, so don't be alarmed if you don't see it right away. It will grow quickly and soon make up for its late start. Apply a balanced fertilizer after growth begins. Watch for Japanese beetles that like to eat this plant.

These arrive not in the best condition. The shipper left the box upside down and the plants pretty much arrived as loose dirt and broken limbs. I transferred them to pots and they quickly rebound. When I say quick, I mean just that. In a matter of days these beauties doubled in size with new growth. Within a month there were buds which blossomed into the most beautiful flowers. I even dried a few and made pitchers of Hibiscus Tea. I can’t say enough how pleased I was with this purchase and I will buy again.

Saw online and was desperate to buy. As this was new for 2019 absolutely everywhere was sold out. I scoured the internet until I found this vendor. Placed my order and it arrived soon after. Very happy. It leafed out later than other plants as expected, nice dark leaves. Then the showy red flowers bloomed. Not for as long as I would have hoped, maybe 2-3 weeks. But I am addicted. One thing I do not understand though is that we have to trim to 6 inches every year, so how can it ever get to the 4ft wide advertised? I only had 1 stalk on my plant. My next will be the Summer Carnival with variegated leaves.

  • Beautiful plant; received in beautiful condition

I ordered two of these, one for myself and one for my neighbor who is also an experienced hibiscus grower. These one-gallon, healthy plants arrived carefully packed and thriving, with small canes well established. In just a few days, the canes are over a foot tall with healthy foliage. Each day, they are visibly taller. Romence Gardens exceeded my expectations in the quality of the plants I received. Many thanks. I have already ordered more hibiscus from you and will do so again next year.
