10 True Blue Blooms

Feb 24th 2022

Blue is among one of the most difficult colors to find when it comes to flowers. It is actually the rarest bloom color. With that being said, here is a list of ten true blue flowers!

1. Delphinium grandiflorum 'Blue Butterfly'

Hardiness Zone: 3a-9b

The first on this list is obviously deserving of its ranking. Delphinium grandiflorum 'Butterfly Blue' is a classic choice for the garden. It has panicles of beautiful deep blue flowers that grace the landscape in the summer. The foliage is green with a fern-like appearance. It has a short, compact habit making it a great fit for containers and small space gardens.

2. Lobelia erinus 'Laguna® Sky Blue'

Hardiness Zone: 9a-11b

On the softer side, Lobelia 'Laguna® Sky Blue' is a light, mounding lobelia in a delicate shade of blue that works wonderfully in container pots and window boxes. The small blossoms attract butterflies and add interest all summer long. It has been improved for the 2022 season!

3. Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter'

Hardiness Zone: 5a-8b

Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' is perfect for creating texture in the landscape. This tall thistle-like plant produces an abundance of shimmering blue blossoms on silvery stems. This selection has non-spiny blue-green leaves, and it is excellent as a fresh or dried cut flower.

4. Evolvulus hybrid 'Blue My Mind®'

Hardiness Zone: 9a-11b

These stunning, sky-blue flowers over silver toned foliage might make you think you're dreaming, but they are real! Evolvulus hybrid 'Blue My Mind®' is an excellent plant for the south because of its heat, drought, and humidity tolerance. For northern growers, it will shine when we get into those hotter months of July and August. Use it in combinations or on its own.

5. Delphinium elatum 'Pagan Purples'

Hardiness Zone: 3a-8b

These elegant, towering spikes of incredibly deep purple-blue flowers make for a jaw-dropping focal point for the back of the perennial border. These New Zealand Hybrids are bred for their strong stems, excellent form, and vigorous growth.
