Tradescantia 'Amethyst Kiss' produces beautiful, large clusters of periwinkle blue flowers with yellow stamens. This variety is one of the longest blooming beginning in early summer and continuing into the fall. It is a great choice for any landscape! A cross between our native Tradescantia virginiana & an unknown male parent.

The genus is named for John Tradescant and his son--gardeners to King Charles I of England. The name Spiderwort comes from the sap: when a leaf or stem is torn, the sap forms a threadlike strand that hardens like spider silk -- now you know!

Uses: Borders, Containers, Cottage Gardens, Naturalizing, Rain Garden
Nature Attraction: Bees, Butterflies
Notable Features: Long Bloom Time, Easy To Grow
Growth Habit: Mounding

Homeowner Growing Tips: Grow in full sun to full shade, in moist, fertile soil. Plants grow best in part shade but are adaptable to all light levels, as well as most soil types, including clay. Cut tired foliage back when flowering has finished to promote a second round of blooms. Divide in autumn or spring. Often re-seeds & spreads a bit--transplant seedlings as you find them.

This was a lovely healthy plant, however it was described as a cobalt blue flower, and the flower is purple. When I told the nursery about this they gave me my money back.
