Brilliant tangerine-orange flowers are atop wiry, pubescent stems. The flowers have a satiny texture and are crepe-like. They have a dark, velvety seed capsule that is surrounded by dark purple stamens. Hummingbirds are attracted to the flowers and it is deer and rabbit resistant. It is an extremely showy plant that will attract attention in the garden.

Nature Attraction: Hummingbirds
Critter Resistance: Deer, Rabbit
Growth Habit: Upright

Homeowner Growing Tips: Grow in full sun, in well-drained, fertile soil. Amend with compost before planting. Foliage will dry and turn brown after blooming, as these go dormant during the heat of summer; new leaves will appear in autumn, then resume growth in the spring. Mulch new plants for the winter. Oriental Poppies do best in cool climates; intolerant of hot, humid southern climates. May re-seed.
