Totem Pole is a terrific new Switch Grass that is an improvement over previous varieties. It is as tall as many others, but unusually narrow, making it an excellent selection for smaller beds or tight spots where you need some height, but don't have room for wide-spreading grass. It resists flopping over in weather extremes, though heavy snow may still weigh it down. The clean blue-green foliage is topped with yellowish-green flower clusters that turn tan in the autumn. Great for back of the border, or mass planting in narrow areas for a more formal look. U.S. native.
