Miscanthus sinensis 'Morning Light'
(1)
Pot Size: 5.25 Inch Square Pot
'Encore' has been selected for its flowering performance earlier in the season, giving those of us in northern climates with shorter growing seasons more time to enjoy their show. It begins blooming in late summer to early fall and then has a chance to send up a second flush of coppery purple plumes before the frost. The flowers last and turn to a creamy tan color with age, and when left standing it provides winter interest against snowy backdrops. A good choice for a variety of sites and designs--for massing or screening, in large containers, or at the edge of a pond.

Homeowner Growing Tips: Miscanthus is easy to grow, adapting to almost any soil--from loose sand to heavy clay--and it does not necessarily require good drainage. Grow in full sun except in warmer regions where some afternoon shade will be best. No fertilizing is necessary. Regular watering during the first growing season will help to establish a deep, extensive root system. For a neat appearance, remove old foliage before new leaves emerge in spring. Divide clumps every 2 to 3 years in early spring.
