Echinacea hybrida Sombrero® 'Baja Burgundy'

$18.99

Pot Size: 5.25 Inch Square Pot

  • Handsome coneflower in a rich raspberry color
  • Provides long-season color
  • Superb choice for the cutting garden

'Baja Burgundy' displays the excellent qualities of the Sombrero® Series, displaying its gorgeous burgundy flowers on well-branched, sturdy, and compact plants with a high bud count. The large flowers are single, and the richly colored petals overlap surrounding an attractive brown cone. Deadhead some stems to keep the blooms coming longer, but if you keep some seedheads on you can provide food for wintering songbirds as well as added winter interest.

Uses: Beds, Borders, Cut Flower, Landscapes
Nature Attraction: Butterflies, Songbirds
Critter Resistance: Deer
Notable Features: Deadheading Not Necessary, Drought Tolerant
Growth Habit: Upright

Homeowner Growing Tips: Coneflowers like it sunny and hot. They can tolerate light shade, but they will produce fewer flowers and the plants will be weakened. They will grow in any well-drained soil, though light and loamy soils are best. They are drought tolerant once established, and if properly cared for they will form an attractive colony that will live for years to come.

I ordered 5 or 6 Echinacea plants in a variety of colors just a few weeks ago knowing that we are having 100° plus temperatures in Georgia now. I set them out within a day after I received them. I have been very careful to keep them watered and they are looking great so far. A few are putting on new blooms. I knew I was taking a chance ordering so late with such high temperatures. They might not get as full as they would if I had ordered earlier but they will have a head start in my garden next spring and I’m expecting them to show out! I have been very pleased with all of the plants I have ordered from Romence Gardens. Everything has arrived well packaged and healthy. Thank you so much.
