Pot Size: 5.25 Inch Square Pot
- Fast-growing, easy vine
- Highly desired for its impressive display of orange berries
- This legendary native can be hard to find!
American Bittersweet is a classic vine and a staple of the fall landscape. It produces dark green leaves and is a vigorous, twining climber, requiring sturdy support. Vibrant yellow-orange berries appear in autumn, splitting open to reveal red seeds: great for dried arrangements, as well as feeding wild birds. Much of its habitat in the wild (eastern & central U.S.) is being overrun by the invasive Oriental Bittersweet, so help us bring back this wonderful native!
Note: Berries are produced only on the female plants, requiring a male planted nearby for pollination. Plants bloom May-June, so that is the best time to know for sure which gender you are getting! Ask your friendly perennial staff person for help with identification. :)
